Synopsis :
In light of the Winter Olympic Games, a modeling problem is presented in the context of pair’s figure skating. Prospective and in-service high school teachers used related rates to solve the problem that involved differentiating the Pythagorean theorem and a trigonometric equation. Student work is analyzed and discussed.
